Richard Barnes practices in the areas of wills, trusts, estate planning, probate, guardianships, conservatorships, disputes, and special needs trusts.

 

Mr. Barnes is a member of the Estate Planning section, Elder Law section, and Litigation section of the Utah State Bar. He has been admitted to practice in all Utah State and Federal District Courts in Utah, and the 10th Circuit of the United States Court of Appeals.

 

Richard attended law school at the Brigham Young University, J. Reuben Clark School of Law. While in law school, Richard was the Executive Editor and Managing Editor of Publication of the Journal of Public Law.

 

In August of 2005, Richard Barnes became the first person from the state of Utah to successfully swim the English Channel. Known as the Mount Everest of swimming, Richard Barnes entered an elite group of swimmers who have successfully made the 21 mile crossing. Because of the difficulty of the sea and weather conditions on the day he swam, he was awarded the 2005 Greatest Feat of Endurance by the Channel Swimming Association.

 

In 2019, Richard and his brother Dave were inducted into the Utah Sports Hall of Fame for their English Channel swims.
